ROBERT 'SPRATT' PERNOTTO (Faculty)

December 9, 2016

CAMPBELL - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel in Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for Robert “Spratt” Pernotto, 73, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Dec. 9, 2016, after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side.

Spratt will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. People have said he was part Al Pacino with the sense of humor of Joe Pesci.

He was born Dec. 31, 1942, in Youngstown, the son of Luke and Elizabeth (Hallahan) Pernotto, and was a lifelong resident.

Spratt was a proud graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School’s class of 1960, and attended Youngstown State University ,where he was an extremely proud member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. Spratt then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kent State University and his Master’s in Education Degree from Westminster University.

“Bob” was employed as a teacher for more than 37 years and retired in 1999. He served for many years in the Youngstown School System. He taught at East High School, and then later at Adams Middle School, where he was the athletic director and coach of all the girls’ sporting teams, which won numerous awards. Spratt was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and was an amazing musician, mostly playing the drums.  He was a member of the Penn Ohio Polka Pals, and had his own band “The Reflections.” One of his proudest moments was being on an album that was nominated for a Grammy award, and also for all the family weddings he was known for singing “Cene Luna.”

He had many passions throughout this lifetime. Spratt enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his family and especially his grandsons.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, the former Delores “Dee” Castor, whom he married Aug. 6, 1966, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. They celebrated with family and friends, their 50th anniversary last August, which he was so proud of. He also leaves behind his beloved sons, Carl (Candida) Pernotto and Robert “Bob” (Lori) Pernotto, both of Columbus; his three grandsons who were the apples of his eye, Vinny, Dominic and Anthony; three brothers, Dennis (Sandra) Pernotto of Louisiana, James Pernotto of Youngstown and Michael (Lora) Pernotto of Canfield; along with many close nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, and again on Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, 2016, from 9 until 9:50 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St.

Spratt was One of Kind man, someone who always made you smile and laugh.  Down to earth, full of Life and will be sadly and terribly missed.

Mike Tomakovich and myself had a chance to teach with Spratt at East High School. Spratt was a great guy and always brought laughter to the teacher lounge. Bob never had a problem with a student. He was a good educator and friend to all. Rest in peace my good buddy!
