John Slick

John Slick

John Joseph Slick, age 77, died on Thursday evening, May 21, 2026, at his home.

He was born on October 19, 1948 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a son of Robert and Ellen Plummer Slick and came to Youngstown in 1954 and then to Hubbard.

Mr. Slick, a 1966 graduate of Ursuline High School, earned his Associate Degree in Engineering at Youngstown State University and was of the Catholic faith. He worked in engineering at Ohio Edison and then was superintendent for the City of Hubbard Electric Department, retiring in the early 2000’s. John was a social member of the Hubbard VFW Post No. 3767, enjoyed golfing and bowling, having been on several teams over the years. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed the many friendships he made in Hubbard.

John leaves his sister, Sr. Mary Slick, H.M. of Girard; and several cousins whom he loved.

Family and friends may call on Friday June 12, 2026 from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m., at the Kelley-Cummins Funeral Home. A prayer service will follow at 10:00 a.m., led by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Villa Maria Community Center, P.O. Box 402, Villa Maria, PA 16155.

John’s final resting place will be at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Wilmore, PA.

I didn't know John like so many of our classmates.  It is truly sad to see so many of our class now passing.  This is one of those moments when I wish I could do high school over and be more out going and make it a point to meet so many more in our class.  I wish for John peace and happiness for all of eternity and that he is in the light of God's face.
