Karen Ann Wiederman Wasson

December 30, 2023

BOARDMAN — Karen Ann Wasson, 75, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023.

She was born March 7, 1948, in Youngstown, to the late Joseph and Katherine Wiederman.

Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver. She married the love of her life and childhood sweetheart, Timothy Wasson, in 1970. Karen treasured every moment with her family and was admired for her strength, intelligence and compassion.

Karen attended Ursuline High School, graduating in 1966. She continued her education at Youngstown State University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education. She had a fulfilling career as a teacher in the Catholic school system and was known as an inspiring educator who was committed to her students’ learning and growth.

She made the selfless decision to leave teaching early to care for ill family members, including her father, mother-in-law and sister.

In her free time, Karen had a variety of hobbies and interests. She was a member of the Penn Ohio Model A Ford Club, Rubber City Chapter. She enjoyed genealogy, was a history buff and loved reading books. She also enjoyed traveling and going on road trips with the car club, and occasionally playing bingo. Although she enjoyed many activities, her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband, Timothy Wasson; her children, Beth Wasson Tankersley and Leland (Chikako Johnson) Wasson; and her grandchildren, Karenna Tankersley, Timothy Tankersley and Christina Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Wiederman; her mother, Katherine Wiederman; and her sister, Nancy Allison.

Karen will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

Private family services for Karen were held at Funeral Services by Gary S. Silvat Inc., Jan. 5, 2024.

Contributions can be made in Karen’s memory to Hospice Of the Valley — Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Youngstown, OH 44514.
