In Memory

Kathleen Fleming (Quinlan)

Kathleen Fleming (Quinlan)

Kathi Fleming Quinlan

December 17, 2017

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 10:00am to 10:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, both at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, for Kathleen Quinlan who passed away Sunday afternoon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  She succumbed to complications associated with a rare autoimmune disorder which was diagnosed during a visit to Boston in early October after Kathi fell ill.  Kathi fought valiantly for over two months and passed peacefully with her mother and two of her four siblings by her side.

Kathi was born in Youngstown on Sept. 6, 1948, the firstborn child of Philip J. and Barbara C. (Kalchthaler) Fleming, Jr.

She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Ursuline High School, and also enrolled in Youngstown State University, where she was an Education major.

Kathi was employed at Ohio Bell/Ameritech for nearly 30 years, rising up through the management track of the organization.  She was the manager of the Youngstown business office when she retired in 1997, an uncommon position to be held by a woman at that time.

She married Joseph Quinlan in June 1979 and was a loving (step)mother to his three sons, their wives, children, and granddaughter

Kathi enjoyed playing golf as well as traveling to watch her accomplished junior golfer grandson, Jason, compete in numerous tournaments.  She was also an avid reader and frequent visitor to the Poland public library where she was on a first name basis with many of the staff.

She was a tireless volunteer at pierogi making at St. Paul the Apostle Church, which is a significant fundraiser for the church.  She will be sorely missed by her fellow volunteers.  She will also be deeply missed by her many dear friends who cherished time spent with her, including Peggy Stefko with whom she spent countless hours at Wittenauer’s bonding over lunch.

Kathi was a devoted daughter (especially in the years since her father Philip passed in 1997) to her widowed mother.

She was preceded in death by her father, as well as her husband, Joe Quinlan, who passed  on Feb. 24, 2017.

Kathi leaves behind her mother Barbara Fleming of Poland; sister Barbara (John) DePizzo of Canfield; three brothers: Philip J. Fleming III of Boardman, Charles Fleming of West Chester, OH, and Edward Fleming of Boston, MA; three (step)sons: Raymond (Julie) Quinlan of North Jackson, Mark (Charla) Quinlan of Cumming, GA, and Michael (Amy) Quinlan of McDonald; one granddaughter, Kayla (Noah) Weiser; four grandsons: Brandon Quinlan, Jason Quinlan, Alex (AJ) Quinlan, and Derek Quinlan; and one great granddaughter, Grace Weiser.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests tributes be made to Hospice of the Valley c/o Hospice House, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 (who were of great comfort and assistance to Kathi in caring for her husband Joe before he passed in February) or

Close to Home Animal Rescue: P.O. Box 1061, Mentor, Ohio 44061 (which is run by her son Michael and his wife Amy).

Arrangements handled by Clemente Funeral Home
