ROBERT M. KERNAN

AUSTINTOWN — Robert M. Kernan, 56, passed away Friday evening at his home following a lengthy illness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
 
Bob was born June 21, 1948 in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Doris Manion Kernan. 
He was a 1966 graduate of Ursuline High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for 30 years in Auto Parts Sales and Service and had owned and operated Bob's Auto Parts and Service in Cornersburg from 1990 to 1997. He retired in 2003. He was an active member of St. Christine Church and had been an altar server at the weekday Masses. He was a member of the Austintown Optimist Club and a volunteer with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He enjoyed fishing, bike riding, walking, auto racing, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, Virginia “Ginnie” Bernard Kernan, whom he married March 16, 1968; a daughter, Marnee (Dave) Gruber of Avon Lake; a son, Rob Kernan (fiance Tricia Lightner) of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Max and Andy Gruber; his parents, Thomas and Doris Kernan of Austintown; a sister, Cheryl (Jake) Meyers of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a brother-in-law, Jerry (Jeannette) Bernard of Boca Raton, Fla. 
A brother, Thomas Kernan, is deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Boardman or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Ginnie Bernard (Kernan)

You were a wonderful senior prom date and a great husband and father.  You are sadly missed and wish you could have known your wonderful five grandchildren,  you left us in 2005 way to young!

Gosh what a good looking couple and how happy you both were on your wedding day. It was a fun day as a member of you wedding party...we were so young. I am sure Bob smiles down on all of his beautiful family!
