James Michael Majernik
April 10, 2025
CANFIELD — James Michael Majernik died Thursday, April 10, 2025.
He was born on May 16, 1948, in Youngstown.
A Vietnam veteran, Jim was stationed in KonTum in the central highlands as a radio repair man for the Army signal Corps. After coming home from the war, Jim worked and retired from Ohio Edison as a lineman and top troubleshooter for 38 years. For many years, Jim had a side business, J & G Wine Supplies, where he sold wine supplies and educated people on the wine making process. In addition to his love of gardening, Jim devoted every spare moment of his life to his daughter — helping her build her dream of a horse training business from the ground up.
Anyone that knew Jim Majernik heard a few things. He loved to give you a nickname, tell you (no need) for material objects and extra spending, and inform you on his current political excitements.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church. He especially enjoyed Sunday morning 7 a.m. Mass at St. Paul Monastery, which was right across the street from the farm. Anybody that had a spare moment with Jim felt as if they were part of his family because of his incredibly generous and kind nature. A resourceful man, Jim was known as the hardest working person around with an incomparable work ethic.
He adored preparing salads, cheese, crackers and his homemade wine, especially on Sundays. Jim was fond of handing out his excess garden produce. At the end of the day, he would never forget to button up everything and say his good nights.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years. Geraldine E. Majernik; his daughter, Julie (Chris) Solvesky; adored grandchildren, Audrey and Christopher Solvesky; and favorite dog, Moose. He is also survived by his siblings, Fran (Jerry) Hurayt, Leo Majernik, Barbara Simeo, Bill Majernik, and Len (Joan) Majernik; sister-in-law, Claire Majernik; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Majernik; brother, John Majernik; sister-in-law, Gwen Majernik; and brother-in-law, Joe Simeo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home.
There will be an hour visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Church on Covington Avenue.
